Current Status: Engineers are developing a fix which will be deployed to the affected Structured Query Language (SQL) capacity to remediate SharePoint Online latency.
User Experience: Affected users were experiencing latency when accessing or rendering SharePoint Online content. While the service is in read-only mode, users will have access to SharePoint Online sites, but will be unable to upload documents or make changes to documents and sites.

Current Status: Engineers are shifting SharePoint Online traffic to a portion of backup capacity to provide read-only functionality while the underlying root cause of impact is determined and addressed.
User Experience: Affected users are experiencing latency when accessing or rendering SharePoint Online content. While the service is in read-only mode, users will have access to SharePoint Online sites, but will be unable to upload documents or make changes to documents and sites.
Preliminary Root Cause: As part of our efforts to improve service performance, an update was deployed to the SharePoint Online infrastructure; however, the update caused a portion of the Structured Query Language (SQL) capacity to become non-responsive.

Here is the current status from Microsoft.
Current Status: Engineers are analyzing the service infrastructure to identify the root cause of impact and formulate a remediation plan.
User Experience: Affected users are experiencing latency when accessing or rendering SharePoint Online sites.
Currently users attempting to access SharePoint Online Team sites are unable to. The page starts to load, but does not complete.
Final Status: Engineers have deployed the fix and shifted traffic back to the primary SharePoint Online infrastructure.
