Scheduled System Upgrade, 2/15: OfficeScan Upgrade - Updated 2/16 8:00 AM

posted 2/9/2010 4:53:19 PM

Information Technology will move all users of the Trend Micro OfficeScan program to a new server on Monday, February 15th, beginning at approximately 5:30 a.m.  The upgrade is only intended for university-owned computers running OfficeScan, and is not to be confused with personally owned computers running Trend Internet Security.

It is expected that the move will take the entire day. Users should be able to continue to work on their computers without interruption during the upgrade process. When upgrades are completed on individual computers, users are asked to restart their computers. More information.

Update, 2/16 8:00 am:

Most OfficeScan clients were migrated to the new server yesterday, February 15th. There were a few exceptions, including those computers that are located on protected VLANs, that did not migrate properly. Hopefully those will be taken care of today, Tuesday, February 16th. Also, any computers that were powered off yesterday will be migrated to the new server today.

There have been a few reports of users having problems opening Personal Folders in Outlook after the OfficeScan upgrade.  This only appears to be happening when the personal folder file (.pst) is over 1GB in size.  Microsoft has documented that .pst files should not be over 20GB in size.  For more information on the ‘scanpst.exe’ tool and the size limit for .pst files, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497.

OfficeScan Installation Location Moved

In preparation for the OfficeScan upgrade on Monday, February 15th, the OfficeScan installation location has been moved to \\uwapps\antivirus\officescan\officescan.msi

Users who require a fresh installation of OfficeScan should use this location.

Users who attempt to run the installation program for the old version will receive a messaging indicating they should use the new installation location.

This does not affect users who already have OfficeScan installed.
