Forefront Update Problem Affects Non-WSUS Computers

Who is affected?
Forefront users with UW network computers which are opted out of WSUS.
More details:
IT has identified a problem with Forefront signatures file updates on computers that pull their updates directly from Microsoft (computers opted-out of Campus WSUS). The problem does not affect computers connected to Campus WSUS.
The affected computers are not updating to signature files more recent than signature file 1.119.1996.0, dated February 14th (the same pattern file that has a Google.com false positive). When users attempt to check for updates manually, the Forefront client indicates that no updates are available; yet, there are newer signature files available for download from http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Definitions/ADL.aspx.
A reboot of these computers does not correct the problem. Furthermore, downloading and manually installing the latest signature file succeeds, but successive automatic updates still fail.
Note: WyoSecure users will be denied access because signature file 1.119.1996.0 is too old.
Problem resolution:
IT has confirmed that uninstalling and reinstalling Forefront corrects the automatic update issue. There is no other solution at this time.
WyoSecure VPN access is not affected for users of http://wyosecure.uwyo.edu. However, users with elevated VPN access are likely affected because the Host Checker must verify the presence of an up-to-date pattern file before granting access. VPN users with elevated access may use http://wyosecure.uwyo.edu temporarily to gain access to Forefront installation media for re-installation purposes.
