Alert: Forefront System Tray Icon May Disappear After Microsoft Updates

Who is affected?

Some UW users who are running Forefront antivirus on their computers.

More details:

IT has discovered that in rare circumstances, some UW computers may lose their Forefront Client Icon in the System Tray after installation of Microsoft Updates. IT testing indicates that, in these cases, the antimalware protection is still running and the computer is still protected.

The consequence to users is they will not be alerted to antimalware infections; however, the infection will still be detected and suspended.

Problem resolution:

The resolution is to restart the computer. As indicated by the Windows Update icon displayed in the system tray, rebooting is the first action you should always take after installation of Microsoft updates.
