IT Telecom Building Power Problems - Internet Access and Phone Service Affected

Who is affected?

Users attempting to connect to the Internet from the UW computer network, send/receive email to/from off-campus, or dial out from the UW telephone system.

More details:

At approximately 8:00 am this morning, Monday, July 6th, the IT Telecom building was experiencing problems with utility power. As a result, UW computer and telephone systems served through that location are adversely impacted.

Problem resolution:

Power and all IT services were restored by 3:45 pm, Monday, July 6th.

Update, 10:15 am:

Power and services were restored at approximately 8:50 am. Power to the IT Telecom building was lost again at approximately 10:00 am.

Update, 11:40 am:

Due to the continuing power problems IT will take some redundant services offline.

Update, 1:15 pm:

IT is aware of network issues in various areas around campus. Dropped connections and slow speeds are some of the issues being reported. This is most likely due to problems resulting from the power outages affecting the Telecom building.

Update 1:55 pm:

On-going power problems persist, at least in part due to damage to backup power equipment. Campus IT services that are or may be currently affected include:

Internet access (including Internet2)
UW DSL
Dial-up connections
Telephone systems (including Unified Messaging)

Update, 2:45 pm:

IT personnel identified and corrected network issues related to the power outage. Most other affected services had been restored.
