Who is affected?

Users attempting to access some UW network file share folders.

More details:

On Wednesday December 5th IT detected a worm on the campus network. The worm was introduced via email and spread through network file shares.

Symptoms of infection included folders on network shares that had their attributes changed to “hidden” and were no longer visible to users.

Problem resolution:

Microsoft has released a pattern file update to address the worm and all computers running Forefront Client Security should be safe.

Users who are concerned that they may be infected should verify that Forefront Client Security is running pattern file 1.141.1241.0 or higher and run a full system scan. If your Forefront Client Security pattern file is less than 1.141.1241.0 or if you have any questions about what pattern file you are using or how to run a system scan please contact the IT Help Desk at 766-HELP (766-4357).

Users who notice missing files or directories on network shares should contact the IT Help Desk at 766-HELP to recover the files/directories.

Information Technology apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please contact your departmental consultant, call the Help Desk at 766-HELP (4357), option 1, or send an email to the Help Desk (userhelp@uwyo.edu) if you have any questions.
