McAfee Total Protection 2013 Antivirus Software Problems on the UW Network

Who is affected?
UW network users who have McAfee Total Protection 2013 installed on their computers.
More details:
The IT Network Team, in conjunction with ResNet, has discovered that McAfee Total Protection 2013 includes a feature called Home Network Defense which scans the network for machines that do not have McAfee installed. This behavior looks like a network worm and areas that have network security features enabled will disable the network port.
Problem resolution:
Users who have McAfee Total Protection 2013 installed should remove the application and install a different antivirus program before they connect to the campus network.
